The shocking beliefs of a Child Placenta in Nigeria

It is a common cultural belief among Nigerians and even more common to traditional individuals and groups that a child’s destiny can be altered if the placenta is buried in a place so hidden to other people.

How true do you think this is? Is culture disrupting modern beliefs that, nothing can happen to a child even if the child’s placenta is handled carelessly? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section.

The placenta is said to be used for diabolic purposes by some individuals and there is a strong belief which has existed right from our forefather of how children who do not have their placentas delivered to their parents by the midwives or nurses who took the delivery, will have their lives in misery, their destiny can be altered. There are also some of these beliefs that imply that if a child’s (either male or female) placenta is eaten by a dog, he or she will be very promiscuous.

Interesting to see how culturally this has changed. They used to plant a tree over it. It now seems that West Africans are very fearful.
