People from different countries across Africa gathered in London, to the Africa Centre in London – as it celebrates its fifty year anniversary.
“It’s good to have a vibe where people can chill and bring all African’s together,” says one guy.
“We need more hubs like Africa Centre where people can come together, celebrate culture, breakdown barriers and have more than a single story of who we are and where we come from,” says one lady.
The event had a wide variety of music, poetry and speeches as the Africa Centre discussed it’s past, present and future roles for the continent.
“Africa Centre has been going on for fifty years now,” explains Oliver Tunde Andrews, the Chairman of Africa Centre. “It’s a leaded cultural centre, it’s also been active in the independence struggle and anti-apartheid struggle… it’s a place where people congregate, share ideas and the culture of Africa.”
The Africa Centre exists to promote Africa’s cultural diversity outside of the continent. We serve as a hub to promote creativity and innovation in African art, culture, business and entrepreneurship in London.

Have you been to the Africa Centre in London? What would you like to see
for the next fifty years at the Centre?
I havent been before but it looks okay. The main change I would like to see
if for Africa and Africans to be represented in a true and positive light
in mainstream media (TV and newspapers)
