Nigerians put their lives at risk everyday by crossing the express roads instead of using the overhead bridge, which results to people dying or getting badly injured. But why don’t people use the pedestrian bridge?
“It is for our own safety,” replies one man
The Lagos State government has decided to put a stop to road crossing, by putting barricades in the center of a major bus stop in Lagos ‘Ojota’, thereby forcing people to use the overhead bridge.
“I spent 25 mins, just to get across to this place,” says one man
BattaBox presenter Adeola visits Ojota bus stop in Lagos, where there have been commotion for days, to hear what people have to say about queuing to use the pedestrian bridge.
“They could have expanded the bridge,” complains one woman
This new development has caused more problems for pedestrians, as they have to queue for hours just to get to the other side of the road. Most people argue that too many people ply that route everyday, the bridge is too small and narrow and has no light to protect people on the bridge at night.
“A mad woman spat on my face on the bridge” yells one woman “They treat us like animals,” she continues
But some people are really pleased with the government’s decision
“New development, we like it,” says one guy

Nothing wrong with the bridge but there should be more of them and maybe it
should have a ramp (as well as steps) as they do in other parts of Lagos.
People will whinge but it’s better than watching people run across the
road, risking their lives in heavy traffic.
The problem is not the bridge, the problem is Nigerians overbreeding which
leads to such over crowding .

I heard the Lagos state government was going to build a pedestrian bridge
in that same area.
This bridge looks like its gonna collapse .
A simple solution for now, one side (left) for when going up and one for
going down (right). That should ease traffic for now.
3You don’t provide an intervention that creates another problem. Like
someone said, some decision makers tend to think from the back. What they
should have done is law enforcement to ensure pple cross the bridge,
monitor pedestrian traffic, then determine how to move pedestrians if they
truly want to stop pple crossing the expressway. Another solution may be to
put a timed pedestrian crosswalk(zebra crossing) on the road that works
intermittently
I think the NIgerian government and certain foreign nations are determined
to keep Nigeria underdeveloped for centuries to come. C’mon, it’s 2016 in
the Technological age and Lagos can’t build a bridge with working lights?
