Wanikin Grammar school is the only school in Wanikin community. They have no chairs or windows in their classrooms, shattered roofs, no walk way and overgrown weed everywhere. It is not in any way a decent environment to study in, but the children still come to school.

“Here we provide our own water, security and electricity, the government is totally not involved,” says Oba Kole Ojutalayo – Laroka of Wanikin Ife.

Battabox presenter Timothy visits Wanikin Community Grammar School in Ile Ife to see the impoverished state of the school and the environment itself.

“The classes are not good, and there are no chairs in the classrooms,” says one student

According to some of the people we spoke to in the community, the terrible state of the school was caused by the clash between the Ife and Modakeke people which caused mayhem in the two communities leading to destruction and loss of lives.

“Parents withdrew their children from the school during the Ife/Modakeke war,” says one man

Even some of parents themselves are not happy about the state of the school and are calling on the government and people to help revive the school.

When the Oba is so reliant on government to provide for his people… Who
is the government? What is his role in the community if not to direct and
head his people? Abi, what is the role of a king, really?

I honestly don’t really know what to say coz this is really sad. Nigeria is
a country of connection because of corruption and the problem is we all are
born to survive in any situation but that’s not gonna help us to bring in
any change. That Oba need to talk to the new Oni of Ife and ask him for
help.. I’m pretty much sure he will. God bless our country Nigeria.

Is it possible for BattaBox to do a follow up after some time? Also, bank
wiring is so expensive. Is there any other way to send donations other than
    wire transfer? Thanks.

Good job by Tim, but see how beautifully the king of that community speaks
English, surely someone as learned and as successful as he appears to be
should be able to mobilise well to do people to renovate that school, being
a king is not just about living large and taking young brides
