Nigeria’s film industry is bigger than Hollywood, and this week BattaBox reviews the latest, biggest Nollywood releases – Dognapped and Silver Spoon!

Our BattaBox Nollywood Movie Presenter Eve hustled to the cinema in Lagos sharp sharp, bought some popcorn, and settled in to enjoy the movies – and make notes, just for you!

Dognapped is Nigeria’s first live animal animated comedy, and follows the highs and low of a struggling comedian who makes friends with a talking dog. And, not just any talking dog, but a pidgin talking dog! The movie is directed by Kayode Kasum and stars Julius Agwu, Odunlade Adekola, and Tope Tedala.

“If you could find out that your dog could actually talk, how do you think you would actually react? Because I would pass out – literally,” says Eve.

“I think this Nigerian movie would have been better if it wasn’t in the cinema,” says Eve. “For a comedy movie, I’m supposed to be laughing so hard at Dognapped from the beginning, not 50 minutes into the movie – it doesn’t make sense.

Silver Spoon is the latest blockbuster movie to hit Nigerian cinema directed by actor turn director – Desmond Elliot. The plot follows the meeting ofa spoilt but hardworking and serious minded girl, and a disgruntled job seeker who quickly finds out his employer is not who he expected.

“Silver Spoon was so great – it had its funny parts, its romantic parts, it had the parts where you as you’re watching, want to kill some of the characters,” said Eve. “I would recommend this movie to anyone because it’s a great movie.”
