Everyone LOVES chocolate!

And apparently, this is cocoa season in Nigeria!

So BattaBox’s Odunayo took a trip to Ife, to learn from a cocoa farmer, how chocolate in Nigeria gets from the tree, to the supermarket, for you and I to satisfy our sweet tooth.

“How long have you been in the cocoa business?” Odunayo asks the elderly farmer.

“Close to 60 years,” he says.

WOW! I can’t think of a better person to learn about cocoa farming from then!

“Cocoa farming is our main business here in Ife,” he goes on to say, “both the young and old indulge in it.”

“Do you make a lot of money from it?” Odunayo enquires.

“Yes. The income this year has even been higher than other years,” he states.

He then goes on to describe how the cocoa is handled and Odunayo even got to take part in the process!

Thanks for watching!

cocoa, rubber, aluminum, STEEL ( <=iron ore deposits+coal deposits), natural gas all are resources that nigeria should be developing.

Hard to justify how Nigeria is said to be a $400bn economy with these types of  dirt roads and really poor stoneage villages.

I have often wondered why the world’s cocoa supply comes mostly from Ghana and not Nigeria. The climate and growing conditions are virtually the same, yet Nigeria seems to largely ignore it when it’s people are so driven by lucrative trades.
