There are no rules when it comes to parenting.
Parents tend to set their own rules and use their discretion when raising their children.
Some people like to raise their children the same way they were raised whereas others opt to do things differently.
Some choose to punish via spanking, whereas others prefer to discipline their children by punishing them in other ways.
Odunayo hit the streets of Lagos to find out from Nigerians if they would raise their children the same ways they were raised.
Here are some of their answers…
“Party yes, partly no. Growing up with my parents was a bit difficult…character wise, helping in the house, bringing in money,” one lady answers.
“I am from a polygamous home, definitely my children will not experience that,” one man says.
What would you do? Would you raise your children they same way you were raised?

won’t train my child the way I was trained. being from a race that is a victim of racism, I won’t train my child to be a part of conquered society.
I love all their opinions and it took me back memory lane. It’s important to instill discipline in a child but not fail to recognize the ever present reality of a changing time/era before us. Move with the trend of time, but most importantly, introduce them to God, the value of time, essence of life, love and appreciate other people around them.

yes and no, cause I don’t think beating is a solution to disiplain your children and apart from that I also dislike authoritarian up bringing, cause children need to have a say about their own life too. too feel free to tell their parents how they feel in a respectful way, so with all this the possibility that your children will see u as their trusted parent and friend is higher, than saying no all the time.
I prefer a democratic up bringing 😀 what I will keep is the way my grandmother was always there for me and keeping my back, even when I misbehaved sometimes 🙄
For sure i will love to raise them thesame way and better …its just difficult with the way this generation has become …especially here in Europe..
There has to be a balance and a recognition and appreciation of each child’s unique character. One thing I don’t agree with, talking as a mother, is doing everything for children so that “they won’t suffer”. You’ll end up with an entitled, lazy over-dependent person. And finally, don’t enforce your religion on your children either; especially if you haven’t made the effort to study its origin

1. Feed your children so they will grow
2. Love your children
3. Make sure they attend tertiary institutions or learn a trade (they must do at least one, no excuse)
Most Nigerian parents fail in the third point and the kids will end up struggling to survive in the future.
