Nigeria has several security concerns…Boko Haram, kidnappings, armed robberies…

and it has become clear over the years that many Nigerians would like to be armed in order to protect themselves.

So BattaBox’s Odunayo hit the Lagos streets to find out…

If guns should be legalized in Nigeria.

“Do you think a gun bill should be passed to allow every Nigerian to be armed?” Odunayo asks.

“Obviously not…because we’d kills ourselves!” a young lady exclaims.

“I support it partially but not completely,” one man answers.

“Even the police that even have the access to gun sometimes they misuse the opportunity…and that has caused so many havoc in the country,” a lady states.

“No no no no no…I would not subscribe to that,” a young man says.

“As the situation is now, I think it is right for Nigeria to legalize arms,” one man confidently states.

What do you think?

Should all Nigerians be allowed to carry guns?

Thanks for watching!

Well, I plan on carrying my Glock 19, 9mm very reliable if and when I retire back home. The government can’t protect you hence you must protect yourself. While I’m on the subject of government, I believe it is time for the country to break-up. It has been a bad relationship since day one. A relationship forced upon us by Europeans who during Africa “Land Grab” create borders that were not in the interest of the various ethnic groups and Africa as a whole.

the bad guys are already armed and no one is doing anything about it, bokoharam, fulani herdsmen, the hausas are always armed, since there’s no security in nigeria, I see no reason why we the good guys can’t be armed

I think is essential to examine underlying the causes of these social issues you have stated. eg, rape, kidnapping, boko haram and domestic violence. This can all be linked to the vast inequality, poverty and illiteracy that exist within Nigeria. If an individual is unable to feed himself due to inability to obtain employment he is likely going to look for other means to sustain himself ie kidnapping or joining Boko Haram, which promises them food. Why do you think you will hardly see a rich man son as part of Boko Haram. He is far more educated and knows the repercussions plus the promise of food will never appeal to him.

Do you think advanced countries are dumb for providing social services, definitely not! As long as an individual has an acceptable living standard he is unlikely going to engage in those activities. A gun is just going to aggravate and would NEVER solve the issue. Lets say guns are made legal, a kidnapper would more likely possess a gun than the victim, then that increases the chance of the victim getting killed. Domestic violence has a lot to do with emotions and, we all know emotions and guns are two ends of a sword that should never meet. Plus domestic violence is also largely caused by inability to adequately provide for family needs.

Ha no o, too many people will die, one person will say o to be another will respond ‘won o bi iya re daa’ then BANG. Nigerians are not yet human enough to carry gun, the temptation to just kill for the fun of it is just too much.
