With Nigeria’s economic climate fluctuating by the day, many self employed Nigerians and entrepreneurs are coming up with creative new ways to market their products but Aduke found the answer to success a long time ago….she sings as she struts down the street with her tapioca, alerting her customers that she is nearby and that they should get their money ready, come out and buy!
BattaBox’s presenter, Timothy, sat down with Fatima Ajoke (Aduke) to find out just how she is managing to sell-out all the time when the majority of her customers probably now have less money to spend.
“How long have you been in this business?” Timothy asks.
“Twelve years,” she proudly responds.
“Do people patronize you a lot?” Timothy asks her.
“Yes,” she replies.
She explains that she has a lot of customers because as soon as they hear her singing, they get their money ready and follow the sound of her voice to wherever she is.
“Once they hear my voice they say ‘Aduke is advertising her business’ then they approach me and start buying.
“When I set out from home to a bus stop, if I don’t advertise, two or three people will still patronize me but once they hear my voice they will say ‘Aduke tapioca seller is coming’ …even if it’s a child with only thirty naira, I will still sell,” she responds.
Are you self employed?
What creative ways have YOU implemented to sell your products?
Do you think Aduke’s singing is a good way to sell tapioca?
Thanks for watching!
