Is Warri Pidgin English The Original Nigerian Pidgin?!

English is the official language of Nigeria but not every Nigerian speaks English fluently.

Many Nigerians speak pidgin English instead, a broken version of English popular amongst non-English English speakers.

However, it is commonly said that Nigerian pidgin English originated in Delta State, Warri to be precise.
So BattaBox sent our Warri presenter out and about to find out from the people of Warri if they…

“Believe that Warri pidgin is the ORIGINAL pidgin?”

Here are some HILARIOUS phrases in pidgin…

“Your father! Who you help?”

Apparently that is a response in an argument. For example if someone pushes past you, you can respond with that phrase.

“Agbaka means strong guy,” one man explains. Strong guy meaning someone that is bold.

Do you know any funny Warri pidgin phrases?

Thanks for watching!

I want to say that the original owner of the language is SAPELE not Warri. The language call pidgin was the official language of the “Sapele Boma Boys” They originated it.
