How to paint beautiful Henna Tattoos

BattaBox presenter Folly heads to a henna tattoo parlour in Lagos, Nigeria to find out how to paint the most beautiful patterns.

Henna tattoos are dark and beautiful, and perhaps most importantly, wear off after a few weeks, so you can tattoo anywhere on your body safe in the knowledge that it won’t last.

The tattoo artists in Nigeria are often from northern Nigeria, called “lali” or temporary tattoo. The art has been practised for thousands of years from Pakistan to Africa, from as long ago as the ancient Egyptians. The dark blue ink comes from henna leaves which have natural healing properties.

“Normally it’s used to tattoo their body,” explains Folly.

“I don’t like permanent tattoos, so I prefer Henna tattoos,” says one woman. “I want to get a smiley face tattoo!”

“Sometimes henna tattoos are too dark on my skin, and too many tattoos are too complicated,” says another Nigerian lady.

Do you enjoy henna tattoos? Would you get one?

The presenter needed a wireless mic, in the beginning, for herself so we could hear the questions she was asking. Other than that, it was a good segment.
