“Most of them are very wicked…There’s only one landlord I’ve met in Benin Republic that is actually nice, the other ones are very wicked,” one young man tells Harrison.
“They are worst…they are still in 2002,” one lady shakes her head as she tells Harrison.
“We are all human beings. Some are good, some are bad and some are both…They are alien.”
“Why do you say they are alien?” Harrison asks the man.
“Because they are very very bad,” he replies.
“Some steal from us,” one man said.
“They feel intimidated when they hear the word ‘Nigerian’,” another man states.
“Some Béninoise feel like we Nigerians just come here to dominate and make them feel like they don’t own the country anymore,” one young woman expresses.
“They try to treat us as if we are God at times and they try to treat us as if we are nobody at times but I think they are good,” a lady told Harrison.
Some Nigerians that Harrison spoke to felt that we have a different level of thinking and reasoning, while others mentioned that the Béninoise take advantage of Nigerians.
The advice they had for Nigerians:
“I fought with most of them but with time I learnt how to ignore,” one man advised.
“Just keep quiet, just let them be, talk calmly, don’t look for trouble, don’t mingle with them until you leave and… Just be ready for any S*** that is coming to you,” they answered.
