Does a leader of Nigeria need previous political experience to govern? BattaBox takes to the streets of Lagos to find out.
Nigeria’s next elections are set for 2019, and many political newcomers are set to stand for election across the country – from governors, senators, to the president himself. However, do they have what it takes to govern Nigeria well, especially if they have no previous political experience?
BattaBox presenter Folly asked Nigerians – especially, if they are aged between 35 and 40.
“No, no one with no experience to rule or be a leader, cannot rule,” says one young Nigerian.
“You cannot rule if you have no previous political experience, because no matter how brilliant you might be, you still need the technical know-how to be able to rule Nigeria,” says another young man.
Our gist today comes as Nigeria’s current president signs a bill into law reducing the age limit of Nigerians who can run for high office int the country. The new bill allows Nigerians, for the first time, as young as 30 to run for governorship positions, and at 35 to run for the presidency. It is part of the “not too young to run” campaign. Almost all of Nigeria’s recent democratic presidents have been over 50 years old.
What do you think – can a Nigerian youth, with no political experience, be allowed to rule Nigeria? Comment below.

According to my own view, youth can be a leader with no experience but must consult the former leaders in given him ideas because former leaders too start from somewhere, in this case, the youth with no experience too we start somewhere but the youth may not be totally successful with the former leaders support and I mean former good leaders.
Second view, for the youth to be in power. It require processes. If youth were able handle their various states as a governor, I bet you the federal are going to do the right thing because governors of each state contribute to the wining of the presidential elections.
YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW NIGERIANS THINK”THAT ONE WITHOUT POLITICAL EXPERIENCE CANT RULE”- WHAT A SHAMEFUL SITUATION.
YOU CAN SEE THAT NIGERIA PROBLEM IS NOT IN THE HANDS OF CRIMINAL RULERS,RATHER IN THE HANDS OF NIGERIAN YOUTHS THEMSELVES.
FOOLS
What do you mean No Political experience all these thiefs that almost sell the whole country where did they learn their own experience until when we are ready then Nigeria will be at standard we all crave for.
From the outside looking in its wrong to think the youth should not be allowed to run for office. Elders can learn a whole lot from the youth and vice versa. Revolutions start from those oppressed by conditions. This continuation of the Elder statesman system is hurting Nigeria and not moving it forward.
This is the Shame, that the citizens think there is a need for political experience to govern, Oh My goodness, this country is not ready, ” A Nation deserves its government indeed”
now i know that the problem of nigeria is in d hands of the youth.wat has buhari and d rest of them who has knowledge done?its a pity.
I held someone said if u don’t have political experience u can’t rule. So, these old men that have political experience what is their achievements so far since independence?
The man at 5:00 bravo to him. Being a politician doesn’t qualify people for leadership. Giving a good speech and filling a stadium at a rally and paying boys to do your dirty work during election time is not leadership. But it is political experience. You need to understand your nations needs and assemble a team with skills to help you do the job. It’s never one man who rules but a skilled set of people who steer a nation together
Why not try the youth because the old seems to run the country like the youth maybe the youth can really turn something major and get things done in the right way because if they learn too deeply from the old you getting nothing but the same
The instrumental used in this video is really good. Is Battabox able to share the link?
