The Commonwealth is home to 2.4 billion people across 52 independent and equal sovereign states.

Monday March 2 was Commonwealth day in Nigeria so we decided to find out from Nigerians how much they know about the association that Nigeria has been a part of for decades!

“Some countries coming together to have a common purpose.”

“The British colonized us…they brought all the colonies together.”

“Means wealth…doing things that has to do with people getting rich.”

“A way of generating income.”

Is It Time To Move Back To Nigeria?

highest population in Africa!

We are a rich nation, bursting with talent and intelligence, yet many of us leave our home to set up camp elsewhere. As a consequence Nigeria doesn’t fully benefit from the skills all our citizens possess.

“I was born and raised in London,” a young man explains.

“And then you decided to come back home?” Lolade asks.

Can A Charity Change Nigeria?

Change Nigeria Project is a UK registered charity with the aim to support the unemployed youths living in Nigeria.

Battabox presenter Maria speaks to Neneh Umusu of Change Nigeria Project who talks about the aim and objective of the charity and how they are using it to touch lives in Nigeria.

“We hope to create a lot of awareness today,” says Neneh

Maria also asked a couple of people how they felt about donating money to Nigeria through charities from the UK.

Since the vote for Brexit, it has been reported that racial abuse in the UK is on the rise, but is there really racism in the UK?

Battabox presenter Maria hits the streets of London to find out what the public thinks of racism in the UK.

“There is racism in the UK but its discrete,” says one lady

“You can’t get away with racism in the UK,”

According to one lady, white people are not the only racist people, “Nowadays racism is coming from all races,” she says “Black, Indians, Asians,” she continues

Although some people disagree to the fact that racism does exist in the UK.

“Living in London, i haven’t seen racism,” says one guy

Have you seen the Hilarious comedy British Nigerian Meet The Adebanjos?

Battabox presenter Mary meets with Debra Odutuyo and Andrew Osayemi , the producers of UK’s No 1 British African Sitcom – Meet The Adebanjos. They show us inside the production studio how and what exactly the set look like.

“All our scenes are shot in our studio,” Andrew explains. “People think its a real house…,” he continues

They also talk to Mary about what inspired the show and how they started it.

‘People don’t know the amount of comedy Nigerians have,” says Andrew

Meet the Adebanjos is a hilarious comedy series about a British Nigerian family who live in Peckham, South London. The sitcom focuses on the larger than life father character Bayo Adebanjo as he struggles to instill his old fashioned African values on his reluctant modern British family.

“We’ve done 50 episodes of Meet The Adebanjos, and its a great show,” explains Debra

Mary also auditioned the role of Aunty Funke in the hilarious comedy.

Africans in London: Is There Too Much Immigration In UK?

Immigration in the UK has taken centre-stage, especially as the country debates the European Referendum. So BattaBox wanted to find out what people from Africa – who either their parents or themselves have immigrated to the UK – think of the debate.

“I think we’re better off for immigration – the country feels richer,” says one man.

“I think at the moment there is just chaos,” says one woman.

At least half of the immigration into the UK comes from outside the EU, including many countries in Africa, such as Nigeria and Eritrea across the Sahara, Libya and the Mediterranean.

Arguments over immigration, particularly from UKIP and the elements of the Conservative political parties argue that immigrants take jobs and drive down prices, but not everyone agrees:

“I wasn’t born in the UK and I know my parents didn’t come here to sit on benefits and take money out of the system,” says one young girl.

However, whatever the debate, almost everyone agreed that perspectives in the UK have changed against immigrants.

“You hear so many people say immigrants are taking our jobs – it’s getting dark, cold,” says one young guy.

“It’s got worse because people assume immigrants are taking all the housing and jobs, but that’s not the case.”

Is There “Africa Time” In London ??

Africans are known to have a relaxed attitude towards time when it comes to appointments, attending events or meetings, which gave birth to the term ‘African Time’. But the Europeans on the other hand are always on time, so is there any such thing as African Time in London?

“We want to get there when everything is happening,” says one man

BattaBox presenter Mary ask some Africans in London – Is there African Time In London?

“African time is British timing backwards,” laughs one lady

Nigerians especially who blame everything on traffic understand the African Timing perfectly, so when planning for an event or a meeting, the time is fixed an hour or two early to give room for the late comers.

“Its not African’s alone, its a Black People Timing (BPT),” explain one guy

Nigeria’s Street Preachers Come To London

Nigerians are very religious people,therefore, street evangelism and preaching is known to Nigerians and Africans. The preachers stand on the streets, in the bus, and anywhere there is crowd to preach the gospel to people,and hand them flyers, but do they end up winning any souls?

“It is our duty as a Christian, to reach out to people that don’t know about Jesus,”

BattaBox presenter Mary discovered a Nigerian man Mr Chibuzor Johnson who preaches the gospel on the streets of London, he talks about his quest to win souls for Christ and the challenges he faces.

“Some people find it funny, they say i’m crazy, but some are very happy that i do it,” says Mr Johnson

Some months ago a fellow Nigerian man was kicked off the bus in London, by Londoners, for disturbing the peace of the bus with his preaching. Since the white man brought Christianity to Africa, does this mean people in London do not believe in God anymore?

“Londoners have derailed from the lord,” says Mr Johnson

Mary further asks some people how they feel about street evangelism.

“This is very good and fantastic, we have to go round and win souls for him,” says one woman

While others didn’t think street evangelism is necessary at all.

“Its not going to make me become a proper christian,” replies one guy
