Should The Nigerian Government Increase The Minimum Wage?

The minimum wage in Nigeria is N18,000, one of the lowest in the world.

That’s right, the Nigerian government genuinely feels that Nigerian men and women can have quality of life with a monthly salary of N18,000 in 2017!!

Last year, Nigerians asked for an increase via a proposal of N56,000 and N90,000; however, the figure hasn’t shifted from N18,000.

In the current economic climate where goods and the cost of living has doubled and in some cases risen even higher than just half, Nigerians are even more desperate for the minimum wage to increase but will the Nigerian government hear the cry of the people?

BattaBox decided to ask Nigerians how the feel about the minimum wage. Here are some of their answers…

“It’s unrealistic compared with the cost of living in Nigeria,” one man exclaims.

“If you look at it from every angle, it’s not fair enough,” another states.

“Obviously it’s very wrong. You can’t go to school for four years and come out and still be earning N18,000,” a young lady explains.

“You must have the money. When you have the money then you must look for power. Money comes first before you can get the power,” one man answers.

Nigerians: Do You Have Access To Clean Water?

Over 18 MILLION Lagosians lack access to clean water.

So many Nigerians have decided to take matters into their own hands and drill boreholes in their compounds so that they can have access to clean water; the Lagos State government recently implemented a law restricting Nigerians from drilling their own boreholes.

So BattaBox sent Kayode out and about to find out from Nigerians how they feel about the new law.

Here are some of their interesting answers…

“Do you have access to clean water?” Kayode asks.

“We have but we drilled the borehole by ourselves.”

“Most of the water is what we produce by ourselves.”

Should Bus Conductors In Nigeria Wear Uniforms?

Earlier this year the Lagos State government stated that bus drivers will have to wear uniforms, name tags and badges.

So BattaBox decided to find out from bus conductors and Lagosians, how they feel about that…

“It doesn’t make sense…I cannot wear one cloth from morning till night.”

“They start early and close late…when will they wash the uniform?”

“If it is properly done…there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“It’s very rubbish!”

“Conductor is not a profession.”

“It’s a very good idea because of security reasons.”

How Well Do You Know Your Nigerian History?

History is one of the most important subjects in the world.

It tells us where human beings have been, hints at where we are going and reminds us where we shouldn’t end up again, yet – History is not a compulsory subject in Nigerian primary and secondary schools!

In November 2016, the House of Representatives rejected ‘A Bill for an Act to Make History a Core School Subject in Nigeria’s Primary and Secondary Schools and for other Related Matters’, that was proposed to make history a core subject.

So…BattaBox decided to send our presenters into the field to ask the people of Lagos various questions to test their knowledge of Nigerian history.

“How well do you know your Nigerian history?”

Here are some of the responses…

“About 65% and I’m not happy about that,” one lady admits.

“Not too well,” one man sheepishly confesses.

How To Cope In Nigeria’s Recession

So the question – How is the Nigerian recession affecting you? Is still very relevant.

BattaBox’s Odunayo, hit the streets of Lagos once again to find out from Nigerians, how they feel about the current economic climate sweeping over the entire country.

“They are the killers…the pen robbers…they supposed to face a firing squad because the amount of people they kill is more than the armed robbers kill!” one man insists.

“I find it difficult to pay my children’s school fees,” one lady laments.

“I’ve been affected in different ways, health condition…”a young lady sounds defeated.

“House rent has increased,” a lady explains.

“The standard of living has reduced,” another woman complains.
