“This sculpture you are seeing represents a woman called Moremi Ajansoro she is our saviour in Ile-Ife,” Odunayo is told before they move on to another tourist attraction.

“This market has been around for ages. If you look closely you will notice that the houses are very old fashioned. You can see they are selling tomato, pepper…”

“Is there a particular day of the week the market opens?” Odunayo asks.

“It opens everyday.”

“These are the women that sell Leku-Laja (rats, fish, birds…),” Odunayo’s tour guide says as he points at a market stall.

“This is the Ile Ooduwa. This is where the past and the present ooni of Ife lives,” Odunayo says before entering the palace.

“It looks so beautiful!” she adds.

“Here we don’t have a conventional prison,” Odunayo’s tour guide tells her. “For example if someone makes a complaint that a charm was dropped on their farmland, this is where we bring.”

“I started learning how to make crowns soon after I left secondary school,” he explains to Odunayo.

“You know kings have always been crowned since before I was born. Some even come with a picture of their ancestor’s crown for me to remake for them.”

“This type is called Peke. It’s for traditional chiefs,” he shows Odunayo a small crown before taking her around the rest of his shop.
