Do you prefer Nigerian food or Oyinbo food? We find out!

Warripikin was so hyped up for the fact that we are taking Food Arena to #SMWLagos2018 and he was willing to make some food connections with the people at Social Media Week

#SMWLagos2018. And this video is an evidence of his excitement and really, we got some interesting facts and funnies about Nigeria foods from the amazing people who visited the conference.

Businesses have thrived tremendously well over the years all thanks to the internet, which has helped this generation bridge connection with business owners & customers and will continue to be a progressive process, thanks to Social Media.

The organisers of Social Media Week Lagos were really impressive as they brought in the finest of speakers and moderators to make sure every visitor had a wonderful teaching and learning experience. And you know as usual na, we had to be present to dish out to you, some amazing content with Warripikin this time and we already have more presenters on the lineup so, WATCH OUT FOR MORE VIDEOS from our escapade.

Warripikin took to the audience at the event and asked some interesting questions about Nigerian Food and we got their opinion on that. He went further to do some explanation and also to know if they like Nigerian food and what their favourite Nigerian food is. And some said dodo (Fried Plantain), porridge, bread and akara (Local Burger) ;~), also soup like Egusi, pepper stew was mentioned. But the most mentioned as a favourite is the Iyan (Pounded yam).

He also asked a lady about her opinion about the food she has tasted some Nigerian foods but her favourite is the tomato stew. The most amazing part was that she gave Nigerian Food a 9.5/10 rating. Isn’t that amazing!!!???

Nigerians love to party! But what do you need to put on the best Nigerian party everyone will remember?

Any excuse is good enough – we love to dress up, impress our guests, splash out on food, and be the centre of attention. So, BattaBox presenter YP Flourin headed out to the streets of Lagos to find out.

We’ve taken the best answers and put them in no particular order!

Firstly, Nigerian fashion is very, very important, with Agbadas, Geles, Aso Ebi’s, with all variety of colors. We get plenty, plenty style o!

But we always want better pass our neighbour. As one girl tells us: “I look at the other girls to see if their level pass my own.”

But, arguably more important than Nigerian fashion, is Nigerian food with plenty of pepper to spice up the party. We do not mess with our food, and at a party there is one food that rules them all – Jollof Rice!

“Jollof Rice! Sharp, sharp! Jollof Rice and meat!” says one guy to YP.

But we don’t just want to eat jollof rice, an amazing Nigerian party needs small chops, pounded yam, egusi soup, and cooked chicken.

“Food! If the rice is not sweet then I just wasted my time,” agrees one young girl.

There are all variety of types of parties in Nigeria – weddings, birthdays, cultural celebrations, even funerals often turn into parties. And other essential ingredients include:

“The Nigerian Music. The Nigerian beat!”

“The setting, I don’t care about the food, it needs to be very nice, like a fairy tale.”

“The people!”

But look out for who you invite, or who crashes your party, as one girl warns: “No ugly guys. Let me be serious. You can’t take selfies with ugly guys.”

And, as for who holds the best parties in Nigeria? Most people we asked seemed to be in agreement. The Yoruba hold the best parties.

“At Yoruba parties, you have a surplus of everything – money, aso ebi, food, and more!” says the last guy.

What do you think are the most essential ingredients to have an amazing Nigerian party? Gist us in the comments.

“The food was 500 naira and it was small! In this Buhari economy if we are going to spend 500 naira at least give me plenty food!” Adeola laments.

“The jollof rice was SPOT ON! You know that kind of jollof rice…wedding, party jollof rice? It had that smoke ingredient, that jollof rice that you know that it was sweat that made that jollof rice sweet! ” she adds.

We can do just about anything for amala, jollof rice, efo riro and of course some mineral to wash it down in one swift motion, followed by a loud sigh accompanied by the caressing of a bursting belly.

So gobbling up the meals isn’t a problem…The question is where are the best places in Nigeria to balance well and chop?

BattaBox has decided to save you time and money by sending our in house foodie, Adeola, to various mama puts (in case you’re ajebo, a mama put is basically a bukka/roadside restaurant, where Nigerians eat lunch, breakfast and dinner) to taste the food for you.

“How can something that looks so good, taste so bad?” Adeola exclaims after sampling some jollof.

Not only does Adeola review the actual meal, she also grades the environment and the restaurant as a whole out of 10 so YOU know the places that serve the most SCRUMPTIOUS meals and the restaurants you should AVOID like the plague!

“They had a gutter there, right in front of the restaurant, that wasn’t looking nice, that was very smelly!” Adeola laments.

We hope this review was useful for you.

Boli and fish is a meal that is eaten all over Nigeria. It can be enjoyed as a snack, shared with friends or eaten alone for lunch or dinner.

The sweet taste of the ripe plantain blends perfectly with the peppery fish making it one of the most popular meals in the country.

BattaBox has been hearing rumours though, about where to find the best boli and fish in Nigeria and apparently the place to search is Port Harcourt.

So BattaBox hit the Port Harcourt streets, to find out from the boli makers themselves…

Where to get the best boli and fish in Port Harcourt and what makes the boli in Rivers State so much tastier than everywhere else?

“If you taste this boli, you will forget this your interview and start selling this boli, it’s a very nice business, you can see people are even patronising us from everywhere,” one man promises as a customer grabs something from the fire.

“We sure can see, they are actually taking the chicken away from it though,” McCreeda says.

“The way we prepare it, the onion…slice it, put oil, pepper…and if you have money, you buy coke,” the same man responds when McCreeda asks him what makes his boli so special.

Have you tasted the boli and fish in Rivers State?

How was it? Was it as delicious as everyone says it is?

Thanks for watching!

Nigerians travel around the world everyday and they try out different cuisines from western countries, but would still choose Nigerian food over every other meal any day. But do people in western countries know what Nigerian food actually taste like?

BattaBox presenter Lolade takes her oyinbo (white) friend Sean to a Nigerian restaurant in Staten Island, New York where he tries Nigerian food for the first time.

“I’m going to order you pounded yam, egusi soup and you have to try the jollof rice,” says lolade as she made her order.

To eat Nigerian food you have to have some certain skills, some of which are getting your hands dirty and knowing how to eat spicy or peppery food as Nigerians call it.

“Its slightly spicy but also sweet,” says Sean as he tried out the Jollof rice

“You have to eat it with all your fingers,” Lolade teaches him how to eat pounded yam.

But he then tried to use all ten fingers..lol

We don’t know how much Sean enjoyed the food, but he seemed satisfied.

Watch and enjoy…
