Last week we introduced you to Queen Edet, a young student that sells crayfish.

In this video Odunayo gets to know Queen Edet a bit better.

“Do you have a lot of suitors, toasters?…you’re pretty so you should have,” Odunayo asks Queen Edet.

“No I don’t have a boyfriend, I don’t have a fiance and I don’t want,” Queen Edet answers.

“What was the reception like wen you first started (selling crayfish)?”

“It’s good because my lecturers buy as well…I’ve already registered my company,” Queen Edet explains.

Queen Edet started a crayfish delivery business.

The university student has done so well that she now has customers all over Nigeria and has big plans to become an international crayfish seller.

When BattaBox heard about Queen Edet we decided to send Odunayo to meet with her to find out about her interesting business.

Here is some of the information she shared with us…

“I bring them from Akwa Ibom state.”

“It started when I finished my internship…this is what I learned from my granny. I grew up with this. I used to help her,” Queen Edet explains to Odunayo.

“I had this challenge of friends trying to mock at me and almost making me drop what I was doing because of the mockery…so I had to cut the ties of such friendship,” she tells Odunayo.

Can You Cook Stew For Less Than N1000 In A Recession?

Since the current recession hit Nigeria like a tonne of bricks, prices of EVERYTHING have been skyrocketing but the one thing that every single Nigerian has definitely noticed is how the current economic climate has impacted the price of food in the market.

Now…If it was just food, we could manage. After all, we are a nation of survivors but it’s EVERYTHING.

You want to buy tomatoes and pepper?

Fine but if you want the seller to grind them for you, you must pay extra.

Why?

Because the price of oil for the grinding machine has increased.

So BattaBox sent our presenter Adeola to Ketu Market – Her mission?

To see if she could buy the ingredients she need to cook rice and stew for under 1000 naira like she used to before ‘change’ occurred and let’s just say the task wasn’t as simple as she thought it would be…

“Make I buy tomato and pepper from you, 300, make you ground for me 50 naira, then you give me onions, 50 naira,” Adeola instructs.

“No onions 50 naira for Nigeria now o!” the lady shakes her head, “You no know?” she tells Adeola.

“One carton of fish I dey buy am 30,000 before now na 12,000 naira,” one market woman laments.

“Fish is even more costlier than meat now,” a potential customer agrees with the seller.

“Rice was 15,000, 12,000 but now, the last I bought was 20,000 naira,” one man states.

“We are not selling like before,” a lady shakes her head.

Boli and fish is a meal that is eaten all over Nigeria. It can be enjoyed as a snack, shared with friends or eaten alone for lunch or dinner.

The sweet taste of the ripe plantain blends perfectly with the peppery fish making it one of the most popular meals in the country.

BattaBox has been hearing rumours though, about where to find the best boli and fish in Nigeria and apparently the place to search is Port Harcourt.

So BattaBox hit the Port Harcourt streets, to find out from the boli makers themselves…

Where to get the best boli and fish in Port Harcourt and what makes the boli in Rivers State so much tastier than everywhere else?

“If you taste this boli, you will forget this your interview and start selling this boli, it’s a very nice business, you can see people are even patronising us from everywhere,” one man promises as a customer grabs something from the fire.

“We sure can see, they are actually taking the chicken away from it though,” McCreeda says.

“The way we prepare it, the onion…slice it, put oil, pepper…and if you have money, you buy coke,” the same man responds when McCreeda asks him what makes his boli so special.

On BattaBox you have seen Odunayo eaten Dog meat, grass cutter meat, and also visited a fish market in Lagos. But what other animals do people eat? You are about to see the weirdest animals people eat and find to be delicious…

“We sell Crocodiles, Monitor Lizards, Turtles, Pangolins etc,” says one of the sellers

BattaBox presenter Odunayo and kayode travel to Epe, a district on the outskirts of Lagos to find the famous ‘Oluwo Meat Market’ where one can find different kinds of animals both dead or alive which people buy to eat.

In the previous episode, you could see where to buy bush animals like Antelopes, Bush dogs, Bush cats, Deers etc (Watch Below). In this part two video of the meat market, Odunayo shows where you can find reptiles and water animals which people eat.

“Nigerians and white people come to buy them,” says the crocodile seller

The mouths and hands of the crocodiles are mostly tied up to avoid them biting anyone or running away.

Odunayo spoke to a customer who just bought a Pangolin

“It is very very sweet,” says the man.
