Warripikin was so hyped up for the fact that we are taking Food Arena to #SMWLagos2018 and he was willing to make some food connections with the people at Social Media Week

#SMWLagos2018. And this video is an evidence of his excitement and really, we got some interesting facts and funnies about Nigeria foods from the amazing people who visited the conference.

Businesses have thrived tremendously well over the years all thanks to the internet, which has helped this generation bridge connection with business owners & customers and will continue to be a progressive process, thanks to Social Media.

The organisers of Social Media Week Lagos were really impressive as they brought in the finest of speakers and moderators to make sure every visitor had a wonderful teaching and learning experience. And you know as usual na, we had to be present to dish out to you, some amazing content with Warripikin this time and we already have more presenters on the lineup so, WATCH OUT FOR MORE VIDEOS from our escapade.

Warripikin took to the audience at the event and asked some interesting questions about Nigerian Food and we got their opinion on that. He went further to do some explanation and also to know if they like Nigerian food and what their favourite Nigerian food is. And some said dodo (Fried Plantain), porridge, bread and akara (Local Burger) ;~), also soup like Egusi, pepper stew was mentioned. But the most mentioned as a favourite is the Iyan (Pounded yam).

He also asked a lady about her opinion about the food she has tasted some Nigerian foods but her favourite is the tomato stew. The most amazing part was that she gave Nigerian Food a 9.5/10 rating. Isn’t that amazing!!!???

Firstly, the best can be found on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria! So BattaBox Presenter Fluorin YP hits the streets of Lagos to find out where to find and how to cook the best Nigerian snacks.

“Nigerian snacks are so important in this life,” says Fluorin YP. “So today, I will be finding all the best Nigerian snacks and small chops, if you are a foodie and cannot fast for 20 seconds then you are in the spirit with me!”

The best Nigerian street snacks that BattaBox buys in our Lagos video include grilled chicken with tomato and hot pepper paste for N500; egg roll and meat pie for N100 from a street seller cart; groundnuts for N50; Popcorn and groundnuts for N100 best bought from a Lagos street hawker in a nylon bag; fried potato or yam for N10 each; fried plantain; and many more Nigerian snacks.

The variety comes from the different foods and crops we have in the country, that can be used for fresh and cheap ingredients. And prices of the small chops on streets of Lagos, although it’s gone up recently with inflation, average at about N100.

“Akara, Puff Puff, Moi Moi, Egg Roll, Buns, Fish Roll,” says one hungry Nigerian businessman. “They are my favorite and definitely the best Nigerian snacks.”

“Samosa, plantain, potato, Akara, fish and turkey,” says one Lagos trader. “They are my favorite Nigerian snacks.”

The main method of cooking any snack is with a charcoal grill on the roadside, or deep-fried in large burnt pan with plenty of palm oil. And Nigeria may be a hot country, but we like our food also served hot and fresh.

And all Nigerian street snacks are best washed down with Fura de Nunu for N100, which is a white liquid mixture of millet and milk, so it becomes fermented with a thick consistency.

“We get many Swallow in Nigeria, we get Eba, Amala, Semo, and Wheat,” explains Warri Pikin. “But today, we’re looking into Calabar Fufu – very strong Fufu!”

Starches are often called “Swallow” in Nigeria because they are used to accompany soups and other spicy food dishes to help swallow it down. Typical soups are groundnut soup, vegetable, egusi soup, or palm nut soup.

BattaBox visits a Fufu processing factory in Lagos, with piles of cassava, buckets of water, and plantain flour. The process of making the best Nigerian fufu follows some simple steps:

Firstly, peel and soak the cassava tubers in water for at least 3 days. The cassava is then put into a grinding machine and a cassava yeast powder, which is covered in a bucket and left for 30 minutes to rise. The cassava yeast powder is then washed and mixed, and drained. The cassava is then mixed again with water into a white liquid state. After, a wood fire is made, the liquid fufu put into a large metal dish, and cooked, turned, and pounded for 45minutes-1hour. It will then look like the best Nigerian fufu that we all love and know – and packaged for sale and eating!

“The best fufu gives you energry, other fodos do not give energy like fufu,” explains Emmanuel, who has been processing Fufu for 5 years. “That’s why people call fufu – 6 to 6 – because the energy sustains you for 12 hours.”

The peelings and the chaff from the cassava is also used to feed animals.

The fufu is then wrapped is cellophane and sold for 50, 100, or 200 Naira, depending on the size. And the fufu can stay for 2 weeks without getting old.

And then finally, the food is served! And Warri shows us how you roll the best Nigerian fufu with your hands, dip it into the soup – and, you don’t chew, you swallow!

“You just swallow am, you just clear your throat well well!”” explains Warri. “And now my belly don full!”
