christine adebiyi Oh yeah? Well, you obviously have more faith in the government than I, where rats chase the PRESIDENT out of his office and other animals are swallowing money and etc…ìjọba àwọn aláwàdà, as I like to call them 😏. I don’t see them as serious.
And even with government assistance, manufacturers will STILL have to make quality products as demanded by consumers. Remember that they’re COMPETING with quality, and one of the best ways to beat quality is HIGHER quality…price is also a factor, but I believe Naija people also put a high emphasis on quality, especially due to the exposure to it from rampant importation.
Judging from the example in this video, the quality of the packaging, even if not the product, leaves a lot to be desired.
In an ideal situation, Naija people would CONSCIOUSLY buy Naija products, and you’re right that the government should lead by example…but all that still doesn’t absolve manufacturers of THEIR responsibility to strive for the highest quality products. Simply supporting them without expecting quality from them would, in fact, be letting THEM off the hook.Maybe it’s true that we’re too docile, because the same applies to government as well…as you stated, they’re being let off the hook too often.
But almost no one will pick a rotary phone over a smartphone, which is akin to the situation here.

Olajide Okuneye For me onus here falls to the government. I blame the government for not encouraging both business and consumers. Everytime entrepreneurs are encouraged to do their best and held to such high standards yet i see people and the government letting the government of the hook.

christine adebiyi Looking to change mindsets is fair, but again, the onus is on the maker, not the consumer.
The fact that packaging needs improvement is a valid one, and any manufacturer worth their mettle should look to make the best possible product, which includes packaging.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Olajide Okuneye very true so we need to work on changing the consumer mindset to choose quality over packaging or brand. For me i choose ingredients over packaging

I agree with you that content is more important than packaging, but that applies more to actual consumption than marketing, which is the primary issue here.
One doesn’t have to be a retail expert to know that the consumer is king, and it’s generally up to manufacturers to meet consumers’ demands, not the other way around.
